U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) hosts Seminar on chemical diversion in Santiago
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) hosted the seminar “Chemical Diversion and Investigation” for officers of the Investigations Police (PDI), Carabineros police, Public Ministry, and National Drug Control Council (Conace) officials in Chile. The seminar is intended to strengthen international technical cooperation in the fight against drugs.
The DEA experts, who focus in international criminal investigations and regulations and control of chemicals, addressed a wide array of topics including methods of chemical diversion for drug production, analysis of samples, toxicology. They also discussed international and regional trends in the diversion of chemicals for drug production and detection of clandestine laboratories, and handling of dangerous chemicals.
The DEA training academy in Quantico, Virginia made this training available to other countries to promote improved technical cooperation with regard to the international fight against drugs. In addition to the Chilean officials, law-enforcement officers of Peru and Ecuador attended the seminar.
The seminar took place in Santiago at the Intercontinental Hotel from October 26-29.
