Four NASA experts arrived to Chile on August 31, to share their expertise with the Ministry of Health and Mining teams participating in the rescue of the 33 miners trapped in the San Jose mine in the Atacama Region. NASA’s deputy chief medical officer James Michael Duncan, Space Medicine Division Chief J.D. Polk, (Ph.D.) operational and behavioral psychologist Albert W. Holland, and the principal engineer of the Safety and Engineering Center Clint Cragg, and Ministers Jaime Manalich (health) and Laurence Golborne (mining), gave a press conference to provide details on the purpose of their visit.
