U.S. Citizen Services

Hello and Welcome to Chile!

The Embassy of the United States of America in Santiago welcomes you to Chile and reminds you that serving the interests of American citizens is one of our top priorities.   We urge all U.S. citizens to register with the American Citizen Services Unit. This can now be easily done on-line through this site withouth having to visit the Embassy in person.

American Citizen Services are handled from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, plus Tuesday afternoons through prior appointment by e-mail only.  Closed on American and Chilean holidays, and the first Friday of every month.

What the American Citizen Services Unit can do for you

Provide passport services; register the birth of children born abroad eligible to acquire U.S. citizenship; register U.S. citizens as part of the Warden System for potential evacuation; provide notary and authentication services, provide list of local attorneys and doctors; provide public announcements or warnings on travel to other regions or countries; provide repatriation and/or assist with transfer of funds in case of temporary destitution, visit incarcerated U.S. citizens and contact designated family members; assist next-of-kin in death cases; attempt lo locate missing persons in Chile; relay emergency messages to and from family back home; provide voting information; provide federal tax forms; provide information on the Selective Service System; help you obtain a social security number; liaise with agencies on federal benefits; provide forms to process immigrant visas for non-U.S. citizen family members; provide general information Chilean government visa requirements.

What the American Citizen Services Unit cannot do for you

Assist you as a travel, employment or real estate agent; locate lost property; prepare tax returns; prepare translations; issue U.S. birth/marriage/death certificates; authenticate U.S. issued documents, such as birth, marriage and/or death certificates; issue U.S. police records; renew or replace driver's license; collect or forward mail or packages; cash checks; provide legal advice or intervene in judicial cases; locate or provide information on persons in the United States; divulge information on U.S. citizens registered with the Embassy.
