Summer Work and Travel Program
Purpose of the Program: To promote student educational and cultural exchange.
General Requirements
• The program is only available for college or university students of foreign countries. Students must be enrolled in an accredited university or institute with the objective of receiving a degree.
• Total time in the United States should not exceed four months, and all students must return no later than April 1st.
• Participants must return before start date of classes in Chile.
• Applicants must demonstrate that they will return to their academic activities after their participation in the Summer Work and Travel program.
• Students enrolled in vocational schools are not eligible to participate in this program.
Definition of “Student”
For the purpose of the Summer Work and Travel Program, a student is defined as the following:
A student must have completed high school and must currently be enrolled in an accredited institution of higher education or the equivalent in the local education system.
Required Documents
• A passport that must be valid for at least the entire duration of the program.
• Receipts showing payment for both the MRV fee (US$ 131) and SEVIS fee (US $35). Both can be obtained at any Chilexpress office.
• Prepared forms from your sponsor organization in the U.S.
• DS-156 Form – DS-158 Form - DS-157 Form (if applicable). You can find these documents under “Visas” on our homepage.
• A letter or certificate from your current academic institution confirming your student status and dated no more than 30 days before the date of your interview.
• Proof of social and economic ties to Chile.
